Your private wine tour begins when we pick you up from your hotel in Belgrade to whisk you off to the famous Šumadija region (pronounced [ʃumǎdija]) This region was once covered with thick forest (forest=šuma in Serbian) but today it boasts some of Serbia's most illustrious vineyards. In the first half of the 20th century, wine making was connected to royal family Karađorđević who owned and cultivated 50 hectares of vineyards. You will visit the Royal Wine Cellars in the afternoon as a part of this tour.

But first you will sample two wines from indigenous Serbian grape varieties—Morava (white) and Prokupac (red) at the Despotika vineyard in the village of Vlaški Do.

Before visiting the Royal Wine Cellars at the King's Winery in Oplenac, your day trip includes lunch at a small, family-owned wine cellar where scrumptious food is paired with local wines and served on an open terrace overlooking rolling hills.

Wine production in Serbia has never waned since the founding of the country, but quality declined during the socialist regime of Yugoslavia. Since 2000, Serbian wine has been focusing on quality over quantity again, and has been distinguishing itself, achieving renown for quality and taste. After lunch and the royal wine cellars, we will visit the Aleksandrović winery, which has grown to prominence for making high-quality wines in this era of resurgence.

After a day sampling these fine wines, your trip will end with a comfortable ride back to your hotel in Belgrade.
