Your private wine tour begins when we pick you up from your hotel in Belgrade to whisk you off to the famous Šumadija region (pronounced [ʃumǎdija]) This region was once covered with thick forest (forest=šuma in Serbian) but today it boasts some of Serbia's most illustrious vineyards. In the first half of the 20th century, wine making was connected to royal family Karađorđević who owned and cultivated 50 hectares of vineyards. You will visit the Royal Wine Cellars in the afternoon as a part of this tour.
But first you will sample two wines from indigenous Serbian grape varieties—Morava (white) and Prokupac (red) at the Despotika vineyard in the village of Vlaški Do.
Before visiting the Royal Wine Cellars at the King's Winery in Oplenac, your day trip includes lunch at a small, family-owned wine cellar where scrumptious food is paired with local wines and served on an open terrace overlooking rolling hills.
Wine production in Serbia has never waned since the founding of the country, but quality declined during the socialist regime of Yugoslavia. Since 2000, Serbian wine has been focusing on quality over quantity again, and has been distinguishing itself, achieving renown for quality and taste. After lunch and the royal wine cellars, we will visit the Aleksandrović winery, which has grown to prominence for making high-quality wines in this era of resurgence.
After a day sampling these fine wines, your trip will end with a comfortable ride back to your hotel in Belgrade.

Customer reviews
We were 4 adults and a young child and we couldn’t have a better guide for this wine tour. Our guide Andrija was were kind, he explained a lot, took lot of picture and was very preventive and helpful during the whole day. We visited 4 winery and enjoyed a delicious lunch in the garden at the second winery. The wines were delicious and every of us will keep nice memories of this day. We highly recommend this tour for a group of people how want to spend a chilly day in the Serbian wine region to discover new wine taste.
We had a great day touring the region with Vlada. We learned a lot about the origins of wine making in the region, since we were very unfamiliar with it going in. We went to many different wineries and got to sample several different kinds of wine. The lunch break was delicious. Vlada was a great guide and also was flexible, making some slight adjustments to the schedule in order to best suit our needs. We would recommend this tour to anyone spending time in Belgrade, for a chance to spend some time outside of the city.
I did the wine tour in October of 2018. It was an excellent experience that I highly recommend. Miljan and I communicated easily during planning to ensure I was getting exactly what I wanted - to visit vineyards in a Serbian wine region...We visited four vineyards during the tour and also had lunch on a terrace overlooking the region’s rolling hills. Each vineyard was unique and all had excellent wine...Along the way Miljan was filled with information beyond just the wine. He is passionate about Serbia and all that it has to offer. We discussed Serbian culture and politics, the lasting impact of the war, and so much more. I really enjoyed this tour, and you probably would too. If you’re considering booking: do it. When I return to Serbia, I’ll absolutely hire him again.

Your local guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Belgrade in a private car and you will head to our first stop: Despotika Winery in the village of Vlaški Do. This recently established winery has quickly established a great reputation and makes two wines from indigenous Serbian grape varieties: Morava (white) and Prokupac (red). Only a few winemakers in Serbia grow Morava, so this is a wonderful opportunity to taste this native favorite, but there are many other Despotika wines to taste.
Stop 2
Lunch at a Family-Owned Winery
Next we will drive to a small family owned wine cellar, where you’ll be served wines paired with local food for lunch. The winemakers will be present to speak with and hear their stories of producing wine in Serbia. This delicious and informative lunch is served on a terrace (weather permitting) overlooking the rolling hills of the Šumadija region.
Stop 3
King's Winery
We then move on to the capital of Šumadija wine region, Topola. In Oplenac, the royal family Karađorđević nurtured their vineyards and produced the famous Trijumf (Triumph) wine. Once operating on 50 hectares, the Royal Wine Cellars are now state-owned and only grow grapes on 11 hectares. The highlight of King’s Winery is the original king’s wine cellar which demonstrates how the king made his wine roughly 85 year ago. Although we will view the biggest treasure of Royal Cellar—the archive where wines from 1930s are housed—alas, you'll only be able to sample modern wines, which are delicious on their own right.
Stop 4
Aleksandrović Winery
Before ending our tour, we will stop at Aleksandrovic Winery and see what modern Serbian wine production looks and tastes like.
